Privacy Policy

Overview
UI Lab Inc. ("we", "us") publishes CommuteBar, a native macOS menu bar application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use CommuteBar.

Information We Process
- Location data: Used on your Mac to calculate travel times via Apple Maps (MapKit). Processed locally; not sent to UI Lab servers.
- Destinations and preferences: Stored locally on your device using SwiftData (names, addresses, settings).
- Direct purchase & licensing:When you buy on commute.bar, we store your checkout email, license key, and payment identifiers (via Stripe) to fulfill the download and license. When you buy as a gift via /gift, we also process the buyer email, the recipient email, optional recipient and sender names, and any optional gift message you provide — used only to send the gift and confirmation emails (not for marketing). The direct-distribution Mac build may send a stable hardware identifier (your Mac's IOPlatformUUID) and the Mac's device name to our servers when you activate, when the app validates your license (for example at launch), and when you request a licensed download. We hash the hardware identifier before storing it (as
machine_id_hash) so we can limit activations to a small number of Macs. The device name may be stored to help with seat support. Mac App Store builds do not use this licensing path. - Support messages: If you email us (including via Email Support in the app), we receive whatever you send — your message plus any app details you attach or that the app includes. That snapshot covers version, channel, permissions, and preference flags only (not location, destination names, or addresses). Copy Diagnostics only puts text on your clipboard; nothing leaves your Mac until you choose to send it.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your data for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- We do not operate servers that collect your commute or location history.
Third-Party Services
We use service providers to operate CommuteBar and commute.bar. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies. Depending on the provider, processing may occur in the United States or other countries outside your own.
- Apple: Maps/MapKit for routes (from your device); Mac App Store purchases where applicable. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Stripe:Direct payment processing. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Supabase: Licensing database and release file storage for Direct purchases.
- Vercel: Hosting for commute.bar and related APIs.
- Resend: Transactional email (license keys, download links, recovery).
Route requests are initiated from your device through Apple's frameworks. Location used for routing is not sent to UI Lab servers.
Data Retention
On-device data (destinations and preferences) remains on your Mac until you delete it, reset preferences, or uninstall the application. Server-side licensing and purchase records (email, license keys, payment identifiers, hashed machine identifiers, and device names) are kept as needed for fulfillment, seat enforcement, refunds, and dispute handling. Contact us if you want us to delete purchase or activation data we hold about you, subject to legal and accounting retention requirements.
Children's Privacy
CommuteBar is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your Rights
You can delete on-device data by removing destinations or uninstalling the app. To request access to or deletion of purchase or activation data we store for Direct licenses, or for other privacy questions, contact support@commute.bar.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
